Elite riders of the Detroit Bus Company: Following the trial run you participated in on Cinco de Mayo, we are now making it official. The inaugural run of the Greater Downtown Loop begins tomorrow (Friday) at 6 p.m., departing from the parking lot behind O’blivions Corktown Cafe at 1800 Michigan Ave. To show our gratitude for trusting us enough to jump aboard a graffiti-painted bus when few people had heard about us, we are giving you a free pass to use on any one of the three days of this inaugural weekend. Head over to our Daily Routes page to use your promo code and get additional tickets. We’ve made some tweaks to the route, thanks to some learning from that fated day. For one, the bus now goes in the opposite direction. And we’ve adjusted the stops. See the map for the finalized route. We’ve also added a park-and-ride service: For $5, you can park in our lot behind O’Blivions and forget about your car. Security will be on-site watching your vehicle while you hit up all your favorite Detroit hot spots.Speaking of hot spots, we’ll be sending out this email every Thursday to highlight five of the cool, diverse happenings taking place on or near the Greater Downtown Loop. This weekend’s events:BUSLIFE WEEKEND TO-DO LIST, June 8-10: PJ's Lagerhouse: Honky Tonk Throwdown 3 -- $10 each night all weekend; starts 8 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Northern Lights: Share the Love -- free, Friday, 9 p.m. New Center Park: Slavic Soul Party -- free, Saturday, 8 p.m. Hastings Street Ballroom and Tangent Gallery: The Soul Metal Sci-Fi Circus, $12-$18, Saturday, 8 p.m. Detroit Soup: 2051 Rosa Parks -- $5, Sunday, 6:30 p.m. And for a refresher course in how the DBC rides roll, here’s the rundown: The $5 cost to ride (separate from parking) comes with an all-day wristband that gives passengers full access to ride for the day’s operating hours. The bus arrives every 35 minutes at stops on the loop. Payments can be made by cash or credit/debit card when boarding the bus at any of the stops. Printed maps of the route are available on the bus for riders to carry with them, and the route also is available at http://thedetroitbus.com/dailyroutes/. And don’t forget our live tracker during riding hours. It shows you where the bus is!And the most important item, the schedule: Fridays: 6 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Saturdays: 4 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Sundays: 1 p.m.-10 p.m. Note: Routes also will run on all Detroit Tigers game days, from two hours before game time until two hours after, if games already don't fall in the regular weekend schedule. Note again: Expect general hours to be expanded as we get settled, and keep on the lookout for our Ferndale/Royal Oak route, coming soon. Hey, we got a note for ya: Bells and whistles, people -- we’re working on flexible routing that comes closer to where you need us, rides to work for Detroit residents facing hard times, and we already offer private rentals. We’re not just gonna throw down some “wheels on the bus go round and round” shit and call it a day. Keep on the lookout. Now let’s roll out! Hoo-ah!
